ASP & Linux

What versions/distributions of Linux does Chili!Soft ASP work with?

  • RedHat 6.1, 6.2
  • SuSE 6.4
  • Slackware 7.0
  • Mandrake 7.0
  • RedHat for Cobalt RaQ3, RaQ3i

What features do you plan on adding within the next few months?
We will be expanding our support of Linux distributions with the addition of TurboLinux. We are developing a version of Chili!Soft ASP that will ship with a database, Web server and FrontPage extensions for a seamless installation experience. We are expanding our offering of Chili!Soft SpicePack components to provide more powerful functionality with simple implementation.

How does the Linux release differ from the other UNIX releases?
Since there is no Win32 API available on Linux, we wrote our own. We are already starting to see the benefits of our in-house development in areas such as cleaner code and a much faster ASP engine. Our support for the Win32 API is still not fleshed out enough for third party COM object development; look for this feature soon though. On Unix platforms, we use Mainsoft’s MainWin Win32 layer.

What UNIX operating systems do you support?

  • Sun Solaris 2.6, 2.7
  • IBM AIX
  • Hewlett Packard HP-UX 11.0
  • IBM OS/390 (under development)

How do the UNIX releases differ from the Linux and Windows NT/2000 releases?
The primary distinction has to do with the Win32 layer that the ASP engine and COM components reside over. On our UNIX platforms, we use the MainWin Win32 layer. To run third party COM objects on UNIX, you must purchase Mainsoft’s MainWin product.
