Director Santosh Sivan's latest movie, Asoka; starring
Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, newcomer Hrishita Bhatt,
and Rahul Dev; surpasses all expectations. The movie
already has created a hype among the public, even though
it is being released on October 26th .
Never has a movie been done before on such a historical
figure. The only other movie that can come close is
Gandhi, which was probably one of the greatest international
hits ever. Asoka is only the second time a movie has
been done upon a historical figure, and what a choice
it is.
The grandson of Chardragupta Mayura, Asoka is someone
that many Indians don’t consider when tracing our culture’s
history, even though it was such an important part of
it. Never was there such a ruler in the world with such
an impact on a culture’s history.
This film will try to get the audience to realize this
fact. It shows how Asoka was born, and lived on to become
a legend in the historical city of Maghda . It is also
the story of how Asoka (Sharukh Khan) meets Karubaki
(Kareena Kapoor) and falls in love with her. It shows
how Asoka became King Asoka, his life upto the battle
of Kalinga.
Although the film isn’t an exact replica of Asoka’s
life story, it will give the audience a view of what
life was like back then, not only is Asoka’s kingdom,
but throughout India ; as there were many other kings
like Asoka, but none so great. Sivan has done an incredible
job displaying this.
The set for the film that was set up was unbelievable.
Shahrukh Khan is certain to excel in this role, as will
Kareena Kapoor. No other actor or actress could have
portrayed their characters so extensively. The music
is directed by composer Anu Malik and is produced by
Arclights Films Pvt. Limited.
